Description:
The introduction of HP's 100VG (voice grade) networking technology falls outside of the museum's normal scope (1991). We have included 100VG in the museum because it was one of the most advanced technologies introduced by HP in the 1990s.
HP's "Demand Priority" technology provided much higher throughput than the "collision-based" 100Mb technologies that were on the market at the time. Unfortunately, few other vendors adopted HP's technology. 100VG died away in a similar manner that superior-quality Beta video tapes gave way to VHS in the 1980s.
