Description:

The HP12566 interface kit provided a means to transfer data bidirectionally between an HP computer and a peripheral I/O device. The card provided with the kit had a 16 bit output register for data transfers from the computer and a 16 bit input register for data transfers into the computer.

There were a range of options available for the 12566 interface which determined whether the interface card was ground-true (Std, Opt 001, Opt 003, Opt 004) or positive true (Opt 002) and what cables and connectors were supplied as part of the kit.

At introduction, the model number was 12566A for the 2114/5/6 computers, with a 'B' version released in 1973 and a 'C' version introduced in 1982.

Thanks to Paul Birkel for providing additional information on the 12566 interface for this entry.
