Description:

The 82161A was a mini-cassette drive designed for use with the 41 calculator. It was subsequently used with the 71, 75 and other HP-IL computers. The 82161A was A/C or battery powered. The search speed was 30 inches per second, and each tape had a capacity of 128K.

Collector's Notes:

We have a few of these drives in the museum. They all work great, after rebuilding the battery pack. Just use a cotton bud dipped in isopropyl alchohol to clean the tape head every now and then. Be sure to remove the battery pack, if you aren't going to use the drive for a few months or more. Otherwise, the battery will drain, and won't charge to the same level on the next re-charge.
